Thanks to advanced orthodontic treatments, straightening your teeth is now more accessible and convenient. At Believe Dental Care in Swanton, Ohio, we offer three different orthodontic options for minor teeth alignment problems and more severe misalignment and bite issues. What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry dealing with your bite and the position of your teeth. For example, some people may have teeth too close together, causing teeth to overlap. Other people may have an overbite, which may put too much pressure on the back teeth when biting down, leading to oral health issues like cavities or cracks. Orthodontic treatments get your teeth in the correct position, improving oral health.
Braces
Traditional braces are metal brackets attached to your teeth and linked with an arch wire. The wires are strategically tightened to apply consistent pressure to your teeth, slowly moving them into their desired position.
Conventional braces are very effective at fixing all sorts of misalignment problems, including:
- Crowded teeth
- Gapped teeth
- Overbite, crossbite, underbite, or open bite
- Misaligned jaw
Even severe problems can be fixed over time using dental braces. The average treatment time for braces is around 16-18 months.
Invisalign
Invisalign straightens teeth with clear plastic trays that are custom-made for your mouth. The trays are removable but must be worn 22 hours a day for best results. You remove them to eat, drink and brush your teeth. Removable aligners are a great option for keeping up with good oral hygiene since you won’t have to worry about brushing and flossing around brackets and wires. Since they are clear, they are discreet. People who feel self-conscious with metal braces in their mouth may prefer the Invisalign aligners.
You’ll get a new set of clear aligners every few weeks to gently move your teeth into their new position. They can fix some bite problems and also problems with crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth. However, they are not as effective on more severe misalignment problems. Your dentist will tell you if Invisalign trays are right for you.
On average, the length of an Invisalign treatment is 12-18 months.
The cost of Invisalign is usually about the same as that of traditional braces. You can contact our office to ask specific pricing questions.
6 Month Smiles
This orthodontic treatment is for adults (16+) with only one or two crooked teeth that must be realigned. It is focused more on the teeth that are visible when you smile. The 6 Month Smiles treatment is a type of braces, but the brackets are clear, and the wires are tooth-colored, making them less visible than traditional braces. As with braces, the dentist tightens wires to move your teeth into their proper positions. Because fewer teeth are involved, this process is faster than normal braces treatment. It gives you a perfect smile in just six months!
